Baz goes back to back
Some say it was farming, some say it wasn't. Either way, playing off an 18, Baz did something that had never been done before and successfully defended the Gold Jacket. A remarkable acheivement whichever way you look at it. Fighting off 19 men and coming out on top. Getting on top after round one (after kneecapping Nancy). Staying on top after round two. And finishing on top. Like a man.
Honourable mentions to Paddles and Woody who pushed him all way. These two stay in the mix year after year and make sure that anyone who dons the Gold Jacket has earned it. Paddles may rue that long par 5 down the backside of Fairview, but every round has it moments and Baz proved that minimising those moments (along with his backswing) can result in great things.
Also a shout-out is due to Nancy with an incredible net 59 round 1. But he wasn't playing off a 27 for long thanks to Damo who jumped on the phone to the golf club, got his card submitted and had him trimmed to a 15 for the remaining two rounds. He finished 21 back from the jacket. Brutal.
Premiers nab the JR Cup
The barest of margins! A solitary point! The Premiers, playing away from their beloved, best-of-the-best, $500 a round courses, did enough to take home the bacon. Led by the undefeated Baz, Paddles and Nancy, they just simply did a few things better than their rivals.
Course Ratings
Tauranga was decent. It tracks a horse racing track for a few holes which is quite cool. Some ups and downs made for some memorable holes as well.
Mt Maunganui is a really nice course. Pretty demanding in places with hard fairways and generous bunkers. Accuracy was demanded.
Fairview was pretty tiresome. Trouble everywhere. Errant shots resulted in lost balls and there was simply no let up. Not the forgiving course we needed for day 3 of a golf trip.

Places of interest
- Mount Maunganui really delivered. Good breakfast spots, good golf and a good nightlife. Ideal for a JR.
- Family spa (incident)
- The bus. Always the bus. With nudity.
Highlights included
- Mulvey walked to town for a bottle of water
- Seeing an old "flame" on the dancefloor
- The newly formed tradition of a bottle of wine at the turn
- Getting a hens do into golf carts

Where the hell were you Syds?
