Making Balding Great Again
Some say the worst tag-line ever, but that didn't stop the baldies absolutely dealing to their more folically endowed competition. Three baldies went undefeated through the competition (JWB, Patty & Rosco) whereas the lagging lushers had three who failed to score a solitary point (Wakey, Munro & CJ). A winning margin like that may never be repeated and rest assured the baldies let the opposition know it.
It hurts to think about it, but CJs debut JR really didn't get off to the best start and will remain etched in JR folklore. Teeing off at Pegasus on the first hole of the first morning, CJ managed to top his first 4 drives straight into the water. Why would you try a different club (or even move your tee) when you're sure the next one will be the one. Painful to watch and painful to recall, but what doesn't kill us only makes us stronger. (Editors note - CJ never played a JR again. lol).
Course Ratings
Pegasus is outside of Chch. But that's ok, the drive is worth it - a relatively new course delivered a good golfing challenge and would be a course that we'd happily visit again.
Shirley is easily the best course in Chch. What a beauty. Perfectly manicured greens and interesting holes meant for a great test of golf. Half time pints always a plus too. Would recommend.
ClearWater was one of the more overrated courses the JR has been associated with. A good layout, but substandard greens, long rough and shitty looking lakes meant value for money went lacking.
Places of interest
- Races - a day of races following three days of drunken golf was hard yakka, but we love Riccarton and would do it again in a heartbeat.
- Boring old Chch never really delivered a killer night out. Will rethink options before coming back.
- But don't get me wrong - the boys sure make the best of a shit town and killed it everywhere they went. Legends never fail to deliver.
Highlights included
- CJ off the first tee of his first round of his first JRC. Classic stuff.
- Domination of a kareoke bar
- Glorious sunshine wherever we went
Great work as always Syds
