The boys take the Cup abroad

The winner on the day (and extended weekend) was definitely the fact that the lads headed offshore to compete for the coveted trophy.  Excitement juices were flowing even more than usual and Melbourne delivered in a big way.  A great nightlife, excellent courses and the cream on top that was Derby Day meant for one of the great trips.

On the course the weiners, somewhat unsurprisingly, outlasted their overweight/overheight opponents to ensure their name remains engraved on the cup forever.

Course Ratings

Heritage - St Johns Course had some of the most punishing rough known to man.  Straying from the fairway resulted in far too many lost balls and sprained wrists.  Scoring was easily the worst on any JRC to date, and consensus was that it was just too hard for us.

Heritage - Henley Course was much the same as the day 1 course, but at least we had friends join us with an abundance of kangaroos gracing the fairways.  No boxing was undertaken, but the same high scoring did repeat.

Huntingdale was the perfect course to close to close out this years JRC.  What a track it is - not too long, but big, well protected greens made for a great test of golf.  Overall it wasn't too daunting to the average golfer and could therefore was a treat to play.

The Not Golf

 Places of interest

 - Races - Derby Day of Melbourne Cup Week was a spectacular day out.  The boys became men in their dapper best and Melbourne's finest never stood a chance against the shenanigans.  How about that train ride back into town afterwards - one of the great sing-a-longs.

 - Southbank / Crown Melbourne.  A couple of booming nights out along the water and in the casino complex.  Something for everyone and a great place to party.

Highlights included

 - A sausage sizzle (in more than one way) next to the Yarra providing the location for prize-giving.  With our golf clubs still with us.  Nothing could go wrong, right?

 - Hostel accommodation - never too old.

 - Munro & CJ taking on the role of local hosts.  Ubers aside, they delivered.

 - Three man lift never dies.
