Veterns too good
As widely tipped, the veterans proved far too strong for their rookie opposition. Experience won the day with commanding performances from all of the team. Some say that the Rookies were overawed by the experience and given some of the antics at night excitement could also be attributed to their downfall.
The inaugural NZ edition
It was a fantastic homecoming for the Jesse Ryder Cup, returing to NZ shores since its inception on foreign soil. As always, the weather was brilliant, the courses great and the boys were in fine partying form. It must be noted that the JRC has certainly progressed a long way in terms of boozing on the course since the inaugural NZ edition. Incredibly the golf was almost booze free, with only a limited number of beverages consumed while playing.
Course Ratings
Arrowtown is an awesome track. Pretty sure it was only $20 for a round which represents some of the best value for money golf in the world. You've got scenery, a truly unique course (think rocks in the fairway)
Millbrook certainly delivered on the hype. A proper marquee course which, if you could tear your eyes away from the view, was immaculately presented and had a fantastic variety of holes. Would happily play here again in the future.
Kelvin Heights is right on the shores of lake Wakatipu. A couple of holes tempt golfers to shave off some distance by taking on the lake (and invariably swallow many a ball). Challenging with it's ups-and-downs but overall a good, solid, golf course.
Places of interest
- Pattys house over the lake (which had a pool)
- Putting the rookies in a separate house down the road. Power play from the Veterans.
Highlights included
- Woody's hole out on the 18th at Arrowtown which was met with shrieks of delight (much to the chargrin of the locals).
- Dave falling down the bank on the way to the water taxi.
- Ed cementing his claim to the drunkest dad, now and forever.
